Our next workshop will be on mental wellbeing, specifically covering strategies to improve concentration and positive thinking. Please bring something to write with.
See you all at Broadfield School (562 Robinsons Road) on Tuesday! How awesome was the injury prevention workshop yesterday! Thanks to Emma Wilson from Leeston Physio for showing us the importance of a balanced body. Here is a quick recap of the dynamic warm up:
> walking on tip toes and raising arms as high as possible (ankles, calves) > walking lunges (glutes, quads) - push back up through the heel > sumo squat (glutes, quads) - push back up through the heel > open and close the gate (hip stabilizers) - keep the hips facing forward, lift up knee and rotate outwards > Leg swing forward and back (hamstrings) - bend at the waist on the backward swing and balance on one leg > rotating toe touches (core) > hopping straight line and zig zag - focus on landing balanced, not moving quickly > side plank Work on imbalances, e.g. if you can hop much further on one leg, then practice on the leg that isn't so strong. Watch out for signs of OVERTRAINING, e.g. struggle to wake up and get out of bed, pain in lower legs. It's OK to skip a training or 2 because kids bodies need sufficient rest in order to grow to their full potential. Next week (18th June) we are back at Selwyn Strength for part 2 of our strength and conditioning series. > Selwyn Strength, 805 Jones Road, Rolleston, Christchurch 7675 Today we had 3 nutrition students from Ara - Jordan, Saoirse and Scarlett - deliver a fantastic session to the group. There were some great activities that reinforced the understanding of the 4 key food groups, how to make a good breakfast and the importance of water! I'm looking forward to hearing about the delicious new breakfast recipes next week!
Our next workshop will be hosted by Rolleston School (11 Tennyson Street, Rolleston) and focus on injury prevention and recovery. See the map to the school hall below. Welcome to week 4 of the programme. I hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am. This week we have guest speakers from Ara Institute of Technology delivering a workshop on nutrition. The workshop will be hosted by Springston Rugby Club, Ellesmere Junction Road, Springston 7674 (search for 'Springston RFC' in google maps).
